The Back Bay Inn will feature the work of watercolor artist Marilyn Blitz in an exhibit opening from 5 to 9 p.m. Friday, June 6.

Blitz retired from her Tacoma floral business and moved to Palm Desert, Calif,. six years ago, but keeps each spring and summer set aside for enjoying Vashon. She returns this year with new works, most of which were produced in the desert but are often inspired by scenes that are part of her life in Burton.

“The Rat’s Nest” depicts a rustic, quaint little Burton guest cottage on Quartermaster Harbor. “Boy Picking Apples” shows what happens each September to the 70-year-old apple trees in Blitz’s front yard.

Blitz’s works are often seen in Vashon Allied Arts auctions. In August 2006 she received the “People’s Choice Award” at an exhibit at The Hardware Store Restaurant’s art gallery.

Blitz’s recent watercolors will be shown at the Back Bay Inn with a wine and cheese reception. A preview of the exhibit can be seen at www.marilynblitz.com.
