Former islander lands part in ABC series

Actor McKay Stewart, a former islander who lived on Vashon between 1989 and 1992 and attended Vashon High School, recently landed a role in an episode of ABC’s “Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.” slated to air on Friday, Jan. 19. He’ll play the character Roughneck.

“He’s a guy that’s in over his head and trying to do what he thinks is right,” Stewart said in a recent interview. “He gets caught up in a confrontation with actors Clark Gregg and Ming-Na Wen. He doesn’t die though, so maybe he comes back.”

Stewart said his first acting experience was in Sheila Jaffe’s English class and described Jaffe as one of his “best teachers of all time.” He then attended Bellarmine Prep in Tacoma before studying dance at Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles and then dancing in commercials and large musical theater productions for almost seven years. From there he began a stunt career and has performed both as a stuntman and actor in close to 70 television shows and movies, including “Desperate Housewives,” “The Curious Case of Benjamin Button,” “Million Dollar Baby” and “CSI: Miami.”

With his busy schedule, Stewart does not get back to Vashon much, but said he misses it.

“Vashon’s a truly unique place,” he said. “The people are special. My experience was extraordinary. I played soccer, baseball, tennis, wrestled, cut a rug, acted, learned French, was on the debate team (this was amazing) and generally had a rocket ride coming of age. If any of my Vashon friends read this, please get in touch on social media, would love to hear from you.”
