Local band will play the Bike on Friday

Some’tet will play a free show at 8:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 14, at The Red Bicycle Bistro Sushi.

The Vashon band Some’tet will play a free show at 8:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 14, at The Red Bicycle Bistro & Sushi.

The band is led by guitarist/composer Michael Whitmore, who began a weekly residency at the island’s Snapdragon Cafe in April of 2013. Over the years, this Sunday night jam evolved into an ensemble that Whitmore now describes as “the whole jazz, post-jazz, neo-bossa, torch song from Mars, kit and caboodle.”

The band’s music, he said, is both composed and improvised, with a sound that can be mellow at times, but with moments of intense invention.

Some’tet has played around the Puget Sound area, in venues including The Sorrento Hotel, Musicquarium/Triple Door, the Parliament Tavern and the Vermillion. In July 2017, Some’tet was one of only four bands selected for the annual EarShot Second Century Jazz Festival.

Band members include Whitmore on guitar, Christine Goering on vocals, Barry Cooper on trumpet and flugelhorn, Kevin Nortness on tenor saxophone, Patrick Christie on upright bass and Dylan Savage on drums and percussion.

The show is for all ages until 11 p.m. and 21 and older after that.
