The Blue Heron Art Gallery will be the scene of a unique art sale this weekend, made possible by the generosity, sharp eyes and talents of Island art collectors and artists.

Billed as the Collector’s Choice Art Sale, the event will feature paintings, fine woodworking, sculpture, jewelry, textiles, photography, ceramics and more, all donated or consigned to Vashon Allied Arts by passionate Island art collectors and artists.

Prices will range from thousands of dollars for works by nationally known artists to affordable arts and crafts that will fit any budget.

The sale will kick off from 5 to 8 p.m. on Friday, May 30 for VAA members only (if not a member, it is possible to join at the door).

Doors open for the general public 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, May 31, and 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday, June 1.

Susan Sullivan, VAA Board member and event organizer, promised an impressive and surprising array of art.

“Collectors are bringing all the art a few days in advance of the sale, so we don’t know exactly everything that will be here,” Sullivan said. “We do know that we will have art from well-known Island painters including Janis Kennett and Mike Devoe, and a piece by woodworker Curt Minier, who has exhibited in Seattle’s Gallery of Fine Woodworking for many years.”

She said works of international artists will be represented at the sale as well, including pieces by Hungarian abstract painter Laszlo Dus, whose work can be seen in the New York Metropolitan Museum and the National Gallery.
