Open Space hosts town hall to discuss all-ages arts programs

ORBIT is the all-ages initiative of Open Space for Arts Community, driven by and for young people’s voices.

Open Space for Arts & Community’s ORBIT program will hold a town hall at 4 p.m. Tuesday, May 17, to ask islanders about their needs and aspirations for arts and music programming to be held at Open Space.

ORBIT is the all-ages initiative of Open Space for Arts & Community, driven by and for young people’s voices.

The program offers a space to connect, create, and celebrate arts and music. As Open Space for Arts & Community expands its indoor programming in accordance with Vashon Medical Reserve Corps COVID recommendations, ORBIT’s mission has grown to include music and arts training and programming for all ages.

Community members are invited to attend this town hall to discuss ways ORBIT can create meaningful programs on Vashon in partnership with two other organizations, the Vera Project and Bric Brac.

Open Space’s youth programming coordinator, Michelle Lassaline, will host the town hall with support from the Vera Project’s executive director, Ricky Graboski, and its artistic director, Jason Clackley. Other participants include former islanders Mike Dumovich, a recording artist and founder of the grassroots organization, Bric Brac, and Josh Ayala, a founding board president of the Vera Project.

“ORBIT is a space with so much creative potential and a commitment to empowering young voices, and we’re super excited to have the Vera Project and Bric Brac be a part of it,” said Lassaline.

The Vera Project is an all-ages music and arts organization based at the Seattle Center. Bric Brac supports arts and music education by raising funds through live music events. The first Bric Brac music event will take place this summer at Open Space for Arts & Community.

Bric Brac’s festival programming includes musical performances, literary readings, topic speakers, short films, comedy, drama and dance, which will help support more music and arts and education programming. Founded by Mike Dumovich in 2021, Bric Brac is the spiritual successor to Chautauqua Music Festival produced by Dumovich, which ran from 2015 to 2017.

Open Space is located at 18870 103rd Ave SW, on Vashon. Food and beverages will be provided at the town hall event. Visit for more information.
