Editor’s note: Thank you to islanders Margaret Roncone for sharing her New Year’s poem, and Alice Burns for her beautiful photography.
Resolutions
to swim upstream navigating by the stars
to know the sitka from the pinion
the sadness from the grief
more often, to feel the wind against bare skin
to satisfy my yearning for the sea
to seek the frenzy of cicadas, night birds,
tree frogs
every 15 hours
to enter triumphant sleep.
