Red Bicycle Bistro & Sushi continues to present live music each weekend, drawing from a talent pool culled from Vashon, Seattle and the national scene.

Two upcoming shows illustrate the musical reach of the venue — one act with a local inspiration, and another that is coming to the Island from deep in the heart of Texas.

Publish the Quest

A newly minted Seattle group, Publish the Quest, will play a show at the Bike 9:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 20.

The band has a noteworthy tie to Vashon — it was recently put together by Islander and Trolls Cottage vocalist Jacob Bain.

The band also includes Islander Earl Clay, who plays drums for Trolls Cottage.

According to Pete Welch, concert promoter, “There is already quite a buzz about the band.”

“It’s a combination plate of some of Seattle’s great musicians,” he added.

On bass guitar is Jeff Demelle, who performs with Clinton Fearon’s Boogie Band. On saxophone and flute is Izaak Mills, a member of several bands including Clinton Fearon’s band, Picoso and Reptet. Samantha Boshnack, also from Picoso and Reptet, brings trumpet and flugelhorn to the mix. Chris Poage, of The Panda Conspiracy, adds his expertise on keys to round out the mix.

Dallas Wayne

Dallas Wayne, a well-known singer, songwriter and recording artist, will take the stage at the Bike at 9 p.m., Friday, Sept. 26.

Wayne has been hailed by many critics as one of traditional country music’s most talented torchbearers.

Don McLeese, of Amazon.com, described Wayne as “a burlier sounding Randy Travis — stripped of varnish and steeped in the hard-twang influence of Buck Owens and Merle Haggard — a rough-hewn gem.”

Wayne has shared the stage with country legends including Jerry Lee Lewis, Hank Williams Jr., Emmy Lou Harris, Merle Haggard, Dale Watson, Bill Monroe and Alison Krauss.

He is also a member of Texas supergroup The Twangbangers and is well-known for his songwriting collaborations with alt-country icon Robbie Fulks.

In addition to being a well-traveled honky-tonker, Wayne is also an on-air personality with Outlaw Country on SIRIUS Satellite Radio.

Concert organizers promise that his show at the Red Bike will be filled with “great guitar playing and cheerful songs about alcoholism, despair, family feuds, murder and couples in trouble.”
