Seattle band tips hat to ska and reggae music, will perform on island Friday

A Seattle ska band, The Georgetown Orbits, will bring its traditional ska and soulful reggae sound to the Red Bike at 8:30 p.m. Friday.

The group, which formed in 2004, has gained international attention as one of the few bands to pay tribute to the sounds of Jamaican ska.

“Sometimes you need joyful music, upstrokes, building horns, swaying reggae. With a penchant for getting crowds moving you can expect a packed stage, both because of The Georgetown Orbits’ large band and their habit of inviting the audience up to dance,” said Kathryn Robinson, senior writer at Seattle Met magazine.

The cover-free show is open to all ages until 11 p.m., then ages 21 and older only.
