Take a summer stroll through galleries and art spots on Friday

Most galleries and art spots are open from 6 to 9 p.m.

Anu Rana’s Healthy Kitchen will show work by island artist Suzanna Leigh.

Island photographer Peter Ray’s new show at Café Luna, “As Above – So Below,” is a series of images captured at night by a drone and the macro lens of his DSLR camera.

“These are two new perspectives I have found for revealing parts of Vashon in the dead of night — two very different perspectives on what can be found in the darkness and the light,” Ray said about the show.

Mike Leavitt will exhibit his latest action figures — Elizabeth Warren, post-presidency Obama, Bernie Sanders, Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump — in the show “Make It Happy” at Hastings-Cone Gallery. Leavitt will also include sculptures and paintings set on Vashon. His action figures have been featured by The New York Times, Huffington Post, NBC, CNN and USA Today.

Hinge Gallery artists will show works in print, jewelry and wood.

Ron and Vicky Smith’s outdoor recycled metal art depicting owls, roosters and other creatures will be shown at Island Paper Chase.

PSCCU will exhibit work by Anne Gordon in the show “Vashon Secrets and Beyond,” with music by cellist Ashraf Hakim.

Spoke will feature photos by Michelle Bates and music by Jason Everett and friends.

Raven’s Nest will exhibit a new series of limited edition prints by Israel Shotridge and present an evening with Vince Redhouse, a renowned Native American flute player, featuring his new CD, “Songs of the Earth.”

Artist Marilyn Blitz combines island themes with the landscape of Coachella Valley, California, in her show, “North to South,” at The Hardware Store Restaurant.

“Fascination with the expansive feeling of Vashon, a relatively small island, and my growing appreciation for the wild, empty nature of the desert inspire me to try and capture the beauty of these two very different places,” Blitz said.

The VCA Koch Gallery will show Vashon artist Leslie Wu’s large-scale paintings inspired by images she sees kayaking on Quartermaster Harbor and Tramp Harbor and work by Seattle artist John Smither, who combines printmaking, painting and video. An artist talk will begin at 5:30 p.m.

Renowned island artist Donald Cole and island mixed media artist Greg Burnham will bring visual storytelling to VALISE Gallery in a two-man show called “Short Stories.” A press release stated Cole “playfully explores the possibilities of materials to express the experience of beholding the awe inspiring world” and that Burnham’s “impossible-to-catagorize works dazzle with their fluidity of character and invented language.”

Vashon Intuitive Arts will show fluorescent paintings and stencils by Christopher Roberts.

Vashon Senior Center will show artists from the printmaking collective of Quartermaster Press, including Pat Churchill, Debi Crawford, Sue Hardy, Christina Nichols and Deborah Taylor.
