Todd Zimberg Trio set to plays standards and bebop gems

Zimberg will be joined onstage by Michael Gotz and Perry Thoorsell, who recently worked with him to record “An Afternoon in Sellwood.”

Get ready for a night of piano-based jazz with a swinging rhythm section headed by islander and drummer Todd Zimberg, at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 29, at Vashon Center for the Arts.

Zimberg will be joined onstage by Michael Gotz and Perry Thoorsell, who recently worked with him to record “An Afternoon in Sellwood.” The trio will perform arrangements from the album as well as beloved standards, Latin-jazz tunes, and bebop gems.

Vocalist Maggie Laird will open the evening with a mix of jazz-infused cabaret.

Zimberg is a seasoned professional drummer who has toured with award-winning acts and held a timpani chair with the Federal Way Symphony for 25 seasons. While he is experienced in many styles of music, including blues, rock, and R&B, jazz is where he finds room to express what he needs to say while coming together with other musicians.

A Vashon resident since 1990, Zimberg teaches young drummers and works with a variety of local bands.
