Two ‘brother acts’ to take the stage at Open Space

Shows promise “soul-stirring melodies, deep grooves, and boundless energy.”

Open Space for Arts & Community will present live music performances this weekend and next, featuring acts that the venue promises will deliver “soul-stirring melodies, deep grooves, and boundless energy.”

Wolfchild

First up, at 7 p.m. Friday, Feb. 7, is Wolfchild, a Seattle-based “cinematic folk rock” band anchored by brothers Gabriel Wolfchild and Elion TruthHeart. According to a press release, their musical influences range from the “immersive earthy sounds of Gregory Alan Isakov to Lord Huron, mixed with contemporary experimentation you might expect from Bon Iver, or Fleet Foxes.”

Gabriel’s lyricism, vocals, and guitar work got widespread attention during his soulful rendition of Dylan’s “Don’t Think Twice, It’s Alright” on NBC’s The Voice, which was followed by a national tour.

Elion, a multi-instrumentalist, flows between drums and a variety of string and woodwind instruments as he plays with his brother, while also contributing vocal harmonies.

With performances at venues including The Troubadour and Mississippi Studios, and festivals such as SXSW and Northwest Folklife under their belt, the brothers look forward to returning to Vashon.

“We were received so warmly last time,” said Gabriel. “We just love these intimate community shows where we can make a real connection with our audience. The experience feels more … meaningful.”

The Brothers Jam

Phish, Talking Heads, and Grateful Dead fans and followers rejoice: The Brothers Jam, a Portland-based band whose repertoire is inspired by those legendary acts and other giants of the jam band scene, will play a show at 7 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 15, at Open Space.

David Gans, celebrated musician, songwriter, and music journalist, will join The Brothers Jam for this special performance at Open Space.

Gans has a wealth of expertise in music and live performance, which he displays not only onstage but also in his role as co-host of Sirius XM’s “Tales From the Golden Road” and host of the syndicated radio show “The Grateful Dead Hour.”
