Open Space for Arts and Community and Vashon Events are teaming up to bring the community back together for local live music outdoors on Saturday, June 26, with back-to-back “Welcome Home” concerts.

The day will feature two shows, the first from 12 to 2 p.m. and the second from 4 to 6 p.m.

The concerts, with a professional sound system, will take place in the spacious Open Space meadow to allow plenty of room to spread out and enjoy the music.

David Godsey, who is producing the concerts on behalf of Open Space, said he looked forward to hosting so many musicians in this first in-person concert at Open Space since 2020.

“The artists coming together are some of Vashon’s finest,” Godsey said.

Performing in the first concert, starting at 12 p.m., will be John Browne, Kate Atwell, Gregg Curry, Steve Itterly & Lonesome Mike Nichols, Chris Anderson & Steve Amsden.

The second concert, starting at 4 p.m., will feature Phil Royal, Gus Reeves, Madeleine Wolczko, Tim Couldn’t Make It, and Danny Newcomb.

The Welcome Home Concerts and the return of Night Light Drive-In are the first of many events taking place outdoors at Open Space this summer, such as laser light shows, Up Up Circus, Vashon Rep Summer Theatre Festival, Open Air Aerial Festival, the Big O Drive-In Gala and more.

“These concerts and the other events here this summer are a springboard into the blooming of the outdoor rooms at Open Space and all of the capacities and offerings they create for the community,” said Godsey. “We’ve been planning on improving our outdoor event capabilities for the past decade, so we’re excited to continue on last year’s outdoor successes.”

For the Welcome Home Concerts, outdoor seating will be divided into sections, so that parties can enjoy each other’s company without creating a large crowd. These sections, or “pods,” are available for $20 per four-person pod (includes people of all ages except toddlers and infants).

Seating selections are first-come, first-serve, but all pods are designed to provide a good view of the stage.

Tickets are available for purchase online, as well as at the door (subject to availability). Tickets are for one show only. Those who wish to attend both performances should purchase tickets separately for each show.

Online ticket sales close at midnight on Friday, June 25. Masks are required at Open Space unless drinking or eating. And please, leave your pets at home.
