Community Beat: 50 is Nifty for Island Couple

Islanders Douglas and Karlista Rickerson celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on Dec. 17.

A few friends joined Douglas and Karlista Rickerson as they celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on Dec. 17, at their home of 50 years. Due to COVID, a larger celebration will have to wait until summer.

Karlista came to the island in 1948, graduated from high school, attended WSC (now Washington State University) and moved to California. She returned to the island in 1969. Douglas spent part of his childhood just south of the Fauntleroy ferry dock and remembers riding his bicycle to the island to pick berries.

Karlista said she never imagined living in the same house for 50 years.
