Extra sailings

Washington State Ferries will add extra sailings on some routes just prior and after the holidays to help alleviate traffic.

On the Fauntleroy/Vashon/Southworth run on Thursday, Dec. 20, and Friday, Dec. 21, the 124-car M/V Issaquah will switch to the number one position in the evening to assist in carrying late-night traffic. On Monday, Dec. 24, this route will operate on a regular schedule, but there will be an extra sailing at 1:30 p.m. from Vashon and 1:55 p.m. from Fauntleroy.

On Tuesday, Dec. 25, Monday, Dec. 31, and Tuesday, Jan. 1, the route will be on a regular schedule.

On the Point Defiance/Tahlequah run, the ferry will operate on a holiday schedule on Monday and Tuesday, Dec. 24 and 25, and on New Year’s day. Extra service will be provided in the midday on those runs.

There will be no Seattle/Vashon passenger-only service on Dec. 25 or Jan. 1.

Full moon beach walk

Bring flashlights, extra batteries, wading boots, a warm hat, a jacket, and dry gloves for an ebb tide beach walk from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 22. Join circles of flashlight beams to peek at the shore’s abundant and amazing life.

Rocks and sand that are covered most of the year will lie exposed to view while the sea denizens remain happily cold and wet.

At 9:23 p.m., the tide will be at -3.4 feet.

Red Ranger bike winner

Islander Inga Charron won the Red Ranger bicycle in a random drawing Sunday, Dec. 16, at the “Red Ranger Came Calling” matinee performance.

“I bought two tickets, so yes, I am surprised,” she said.

She will be given the bike after the last performance at 5 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 23.

More than 300 raffle tickets were purchased. Proceeds will go toward Drama Dock’s production expenses for the show. The vintage-style bike was built by Jeff Ammon, owner of Vashon Island Bicycles.
