Updates from the island’s Ferry Advisory Committee.

New meeting time: Meetings for the Vashon Health Care District board will move to 6 p.m. on the fourth Thursday of each month, beginning in August.

Ferry request: At its last meeting on Wednesday, July 23, the Vashon Ferry Advisory Committee passed a resolution, submitted by advisory member Wendy Aman, calling on Washington State Ferries to revise its 2025 Service Contingency Plan.

Specifically, it calls on WSF to revise the plan to commit to providing consistent service on the Triangle Route, “at the very least” by rotating the burden of providing an emergency boat among multiple communities. Currently, the Triangle Route is first in line to provide a boat to another route when needed — in which case the Triangle Route will be reduced to two-boat service rather than three-boat service.

Additionally, the resolution calls on Governor Bob Ferguson to “appoint a task force of experienced ferry captains, Triangle Route community leaders, and transportation experts” to “produce an efficient two-boat back-up schedule for the Triangle Route.” While WSF recently rewrote its two-boat backup schedule for the route, it has been been criticized by Islanders for Ferry Action, the island’s local ferry advocacy group, as “deeply flawed.”
