Orca pod visits Maury on Earth Day

Gold Beach residents were treated to a once-in-a-lifetime show on Friday, April 22.

On Earth Day, many Gold Beach residents were treated to a once-in-a-lifetime show that lasted four to six hours during the day and into the night, when an Orca family chased a Steller sea lion for dinner. Steller sea lions are an endangered species and the largest of the eared seals. The group Puget Sound Whale Sighting identified the transient pod as T123 — Mama Sidney and her offspring Stanley (18-year-old), Lucky (6 years old), and Darcy.
