    The Back Bay Inn will hold the first dinner in its “Taste the World Guest Chef Series,” featuring Japanese cuisine from chef Paul Motoyoshi at 6:30 p.m. Monday, June 9.
    The five-course excursion into Japanese fare includes such dishes as chicken tempura with lotus roots and a soba noodle fan, pan-grilled orange miso salmon with deep-fried walnuts and a side of dragon sushi and plum ice cream.

    Ann and George Lewis, Islanders who have spent considerable time in Rwanda, will speak at 9:30 a.m. Sunday, June 8, to the Unitarians.
    The fuse was long, but Rwanda exploded in a flash in April 1994.  Genocide ensued.  In 1996 Ann and George Lewis took a three-year assignment to Rwanda with the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), George to re-launch and direct the USAID program there.

    This weekend, a replica of the 1950s hydroplane Miss Thriftway will take to the water in Lake Sammamish, skating on top of the water at 130 miles an hour.
    The boat — a replica of the one made famous by Bill Muncey, one of the best hydroplane racers of the sport’s heyday — was created by 10 people, many Islanders, a labor of love by a group of men who relish the sport.
