    This weekend, a replica of the 1950s hydroplane Miss Thriftway will take to the water in Lake Sammamish, skating on top of the water at 130 miles an hour.
    The boat — a replica of the one made famous by Bill Muncey, one of the best hydroplane racers of the sport’s heyday — was created by 10 people, many Islanders, a labor of love by a group of men who relish the sport.

    Paul Wallrof, coach of Vashon Pirates Youth Football, is running for mayor of Vashon this year, and he’s got some creative campaign strategies.
    He has rallied the support of Vashon Pizza and The Rock Island Pub & Pizza, which are selling a “Big Wally Pizza,” and with each sale will donate $1 to Wallrof’s campaign. Zoomies has added a “Big Wally Burger” to its menu, and whenever anyone orders it, Zoomies too will donate $1 to Wallrof’s run for mayor.
