Public ferry meetings set for this week and next

Ferry officials will host a working meeting of the Triangle Route Improvement Task Force next week in West Seattle before travelling to Vashon and Southworth to host public meetings for community input the following week.

Members of the public are welcome at any of the meetings, Washington State Ferries (WSF) spokeswoman Hadley Rodero said last week, but ferry officials would prefer that they attend the meetings intended specifically for public comment.

The Triangle Route task force will meet from 4:30 to 7 p.m. tomorrow, Thursday, at Fauntleroy Church, 9140 California Ave. SW in West Seattle. Topics of that meeting will include an update on tollbooth procedures, the history of planning efforts on the triangle route and the upcoming public meetings.

Additionally, Rodero noted that islander Kari Ulatoski has joined the task force from the Vashon Ferry Advisory Committee, and she and Steve Merkel will select another Vashon representative from the original applicants, restoring full Vashon representation.

Next week, ferry officials will host a meeting from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 20, at Vashon High School. The following day they will hold a similar meeting in Port Orchard. The format will include a short WSF presentation followed by public comment.

“We know there is frustration and people who are interested in sharing thoughts and comments. That’s why we are holding the meeting,” Rodero said.
