Scene & Heard: Garden Club brings holiday cheer with handmade swags

The swags will be delivered with meals as part of Vashon Senior Center’s lunch delivery program.

The Vashon-Maury Island Garden Club was hard at work on Thursday, Dec. 2, at the Matsuda Farms’ greenhouse as they assembled approximately 60 swags for Vashon senior citizens.

These holiday swags will be distributed through the Vashon Senior Center’s lunch delivery program and is part of the the Garden Club’s efforts to “make things cheerful” throughout the holiday season, said club member Lynn Buscaglia.

The swags are formed with greens from club members’ personal gardens, as well as trimmings from Vashon-Maury Island Land Trust properties, as the Garden Club works in partnership with the Land Trust. They are then topped with ornaments and a handmade bow.

In total, Garden Club boasts 120 members, who are “anxious to do things for the community,” such as the holiday swags, said Buscaglia.
