Scene & Heard: Protesters take to Vashon’s town center

The crowd, at its height, numbered more than 30 people of all ages.

Following breaking news about a leaked Supreme Court draft decision to overturn the landmark Supreme Court case, Roe v. Wade, islanders took to the four corners stop in the center of Vashon during the late afternoon of Tuesday, May 3, to shout their support for reproductive health care rights for people throughout the United States.

The crowd, at its height, numbered more than 30 people of all ages, standing on each of the four corners. Women who were of early reproductive age when Roe v. Wade became the law of the land 50 years ago stood next to some younger parents who had brought their children to the event.

Rush-hour traffic snaked past the protesters, with many drivers honking their horns in support of the street action.

Another protest in support of reproductive rights is planned for the four-way stop from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. Saturday, May 14.
