Sportsmen’s Club bestows awards

At the most recent meeting of the Vashon Sportsmen’s Club, several annual awards were bestowed on the deserving members by President Randy Thomas. One other award was the Fred Astaire Dance Trophy for a display of outstanding dancing ability. This award was jointly shared by Stephan and Michelle Lang as well as Cam and Sue Sigler. Both couples have shown outstanding moves in our version of Dancing with the Stars at one or more of the dances at the club during the past year.

Our annual Sportsman of the Year Award was won by two very loyal and long time members of the Club. This award is given to the person or people who best exemplify the purpose and direction of the club. Consideration is given to the dedication and willingness of a member to further the best interests of the club both in the community at large as well as within the club itself. Two members stood out above all the rest in the opinion of the rest of the club members. The award was given jointly to Ed Babcock and posthumously to Doc Eastly, whose son Clay Eastly was there to accept Doc’s award.

The dinner featured the superb cooking of our great chef Lewis Roggenbuck and his world famous prime rib with all the trimmings. No one left hungry.

The next meeting of the Sportsmen’s Club will be April 4, and the 75th Anniversary of the founding of the club will be held on Saturday, May 10. All members past and present are invited to attend that all-day affair at the Club.
