Theatre to show TED conference events

As part of its ongoing efforts to offer a broad spectrum of material to the island community, the Vashon Theatre will host four evenings of the TED Cinema Experience — events from the recent sold- out TED conference in Vancouver, B.C., broadcast this year for theater viewing.

The TED conference is where some of the world’s most daring and inspiring ideas are not only heard for the first time, but experienced. It is where ideas are delivered by innovative speakers that inspire, awe and potentially even rewire the listener’s brain to consider a new perspective.

The theater will show the opening event, the prize event and a highlights event over four evenings in May. Each event offers talks and performances from exceptional TED speakers, such as tennis champion Serena Williams, physician and writer Atul Gawande, data genius Anna Rosling Rönnlund, author Tim Ferriss, musical group OK Go, designer Anab Jain and more.

Tickets cost $20 ($18 for seniors/students) and may be purchased at vashontheatre.com or at the box office.

Screening schedule: TED 2017 Opening Event 4 and 7 p.m. Monday, May 1; TED 2017 Prize Event 4 and 7 p.m. Wednesday, May 3; and TED Highlights Exclusive 8:30 p.m. Thursday, May 18, and 4 p.m. Friday, May 19, at the Vashon Theatre.
