Vashon Growers to host Nutrition and Wellness Fair June 21

The Vashon Island Growers Association will present its first ever Nutrition and Wellness Fair at the Vashon Farmers Market from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, June 21. Several Island health care practitioners and nutritionists will offer free information, food samples and services to the community.

Schedule of events:

10 to 10:30 a.m. Islanders are invited to enter to win one of two free 15-minute market massages by Jennifer Johnson, LMP. The drawing will be at 10:30 a.m. at the market manager’s table. People must be present to win.

10:30 a.m. Introduction to the Web site VashonWellness.com — Laura Worth

11 a.m. Eating Raw Foods (that children will love) from the Farmers Market with sampling — Weslie Rogers and Marsha Pierson.

Noon The Healing Benefits of Acupuncture —Ann Leda Shapiro of Vashon Healing Arts.

12:30 p.m. Yoga, Pranayama on the Green — Jenelle Benker of Island Yoga Center (bring yoga mats if you have one).

1 p.m. Health benefits of flower and gemstone essences — Maurisha Auerbach of Queen Bee Flower Essences.

Throughout the day, nutritionist Jennifer Foege of The Joyful Kitchen will provide “yummy lunch” samples for children, which will include Farmers Market foods; Jennifer Johnson will offer $15 massages, reiki master Jeanne Robinson will offer short reiki sessions by donation, and Laura Worth will provide life coaching mini-sessions.

All day, Vashon College will be passing out 25 percent off coupons for the book “Plenty: Eating Locally on the 100-Mile Diet.” The coupons are to be used that day at either of the two Island bookstores as part of the “Vashon Reads” project. The college will also have information about the upcoming Vashon Island “Feeding Ourselves” lecture series, which begins in July. VIGA is offering a scholarship to the series.
