Vashon Island Music closes its doors

After more than 12 years serving the island, the Vashon Island Music store has closed in town, but owner Karen Eliasen said the business itself will remain.

Next month, Eliasen will announce more information about her plans, which include opening an online store and offering pop-up shops around the island.

In 2004, Eliasen bought the shop — formerly Screaming Mimi’s — and opened it as Vashon Island Music at Thanksgiving that year. At the time, she believed CD and vinyl sales would fuel her business. The world of music changed dramatically, however, and her business changed with it. One of her accomplishments was launching the Vashon Island Ukulele Society, which has performed around the island repeatedly. To stay up to date with her plans, follow the business on Facebook.
