Winterfest kicks off holiday season on Vashon

Santa came to town and delighted island children last weekend when the chamber of commerce hosted the annual parade and tree lighting as part of Winterfest weekend.

Holiday activities continue this weekend and include pictures with Santa at his cottage from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, the Boy Scout Christmas Tree Sale in the U.S. Bank parking lot from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. both days and the Holiday Art Studio Tour from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., also Saturday and Sunday.

Further holiday happenings include Vashon Center for the Arts’ performances of “The Nutcracker”; see the Arts pages for details. Coming up, don’t forget longtime favorites at The Vashon Theatre, including “It’s a Wonderful Life” at noon on Sunday, Dec. 17, and the community sing along at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 19.

Vashon’s Jewish community will celebrate Chanukah with a potluck at 6:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 15, at Vashon Cohousing at 10421 Bank Road. Guests should bring a dish to share and menorahs to light.
