Fred Hills

October 16, 1936 - September 26, 2021

Fred Hills died at home on Sept. 26, 2021, of Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia (CLL) which he had lived with for the past 27 years. He was 84 years old.

Fred’s younger years were spent in Des Moines and he graduated from Highline High School, Class of 1955, in Burien, Washington.

Since 1957 he has been a proud Teamster truck driver working for Western Bridge – Mobile Crane Div. most of his driving career.

His Grandpa drove an actual team of horses (Babe & Dolly) in the early 1900s in downtown Seattle as one of the early Teamsters.

Fred’s first year of retirement he did a total renovation of a 1936 John Deere antique tractor – you might have seen some of his old John Deere tractors in the Vashon parades. Fred & Marilyn bought land and built a home on Vashon Island in 1972. Together they loved the farm and raising their kids here.

Fred loved to tell stories and they were all true. Most folks remember Fred’s story telling and how they loved hearing them.

Fred is survived by his beloved wife of 61 years Marilyn Hills; sons Ron Hills (Martha) and Roger Hills, granddaughter Haley Hills (Hondo), greatgrandsons Silas & Otto, grandson Evan Hills all of Vashon Island; granddaughter Ashley Cote’ Hoff (Keale), grandson Austin Cote’ of Kauai, HI. He is also survived by a brother, John Hills, and many nieces and nephews.

Fred was preceded in death by his beloved daughter Christine Hills Cote, his sister Beth Hills Blackwood (John), his brother Paul Hills and his parents.

A graveside gathering will be held at a later date.
