Gordon F. Dierks

Gordon F. “Gordy” Dierks passed away on the afternoon of June 5, 2018, after an extended illness. Gordon was born July 7, 1936, in Winona, Minnesota to Fred & Gertrude Dierks and was the third of five children. Gordon and his family moved to Los Altos, California in 1947, where he attended school and graduated from Mountain View High School in 1954. Gordon attended Whittier College where he met his former wife Nahn DeTuncq whom he married in September 1959 after graduating. They moved to Sacramento where Gordon went work for Aerojet General and he and Nahn had two sons: Aaron in November 1961 and Kevin in November 1962. Within a couple of years, Gordon relocated to Seattle with his family to work for Rocket Research and in 1965 moved to Vashon Island, where, in May of 1966, his daughter Nancy was born.

In 1974 Gordon and Nahn were separated and Gordy left the aerospace industry and became a contractor moving around a great deal, eventually settling in North Bend, Washington, where he spent many years. Gordy eventually came back to Vashon, the place he considered home, in the late 1980s and remained until his death. Gordy was a devoted Eagles Member for most of those years, giving a great deal of his time to the improvement of the club and putting on various fundraisers with the help of his family.

Gordy could best be described as an enigmatic man, he lived life on his terms and in his own way, and there was never any doubt about how he felt or where you stood with him. Despite that he loved his children and grandchildren deeply and was immensely proud of their accomplishments.

Gordon is survived by his son Aaron Dierks (Sheryl) grandson Gus Dierks and granddaughter Hailee Dierks, daughter Nancy Dierks and grandson Ian Mattingly, sisters Charlotte, Marlena, and Kathy and numerous nieces and nephews. Gordon is preceded in death by his parents Fred & Gertrude Dierks, brother Norman Dierks, son Kevin Dierks, grandson Cole Dierks and grandson Travis Eberle.

Please join the family in celebrating Gordy’s life at the Vashon Eagles, June 23rd at 2pm, with a BBQ and potluck. Bring your favorite dish and your best story of Gordy as there are many to share.
