John Charles Korenek

January 11, 1933 — March 20, 2018

John Charles Korenek passed away at his Vashon home on March 20, 2018, after a long illness.

John was born in LaSalle, Texas, on January 11, 1933, to Frank John and Agnes (Rhinosec) Korenek. John was one of seven siblings. Just out of high school he joined the Air Force and while stationed at the Blaine Airforce Base he met the love of his life Marlene Bice, they were just 19 years old. Before returning to Texas John proposed to Marlene and presented her an engagement ring to ensure she would wait for his return, they were married May 9, 1954, nearly 64 years ago. John went to work for Boeing around the same time and retired from there in 1988, commuting for more than twenty one years from Vashon. John and Marlene moved to Vashon in 1967, after finding their perfect home on a visit to the island, they raised three children there and it has remained their home ever since.

John attended St. John Vianney Catholic Church, he enjoyed gardening and cooking as well as fishing and sports especially football. John loved Polka music and spent many Sundays listening to his favorite Texas station and more recently John has enjoyed computer games.

John is survived by his loving wife Marlene, sons Dale (Cynthia) and Ron, five grandchildren: Joe Korenek, Jessie (Andrew) Daubin, Jennie (Bret) Stewart, Sarah, Emily and Kelli Korenek and four great-grandchildren

A Memorial Mass was held April 6, 2018, at St. John Vianney Catholic Church.
