Nell Bowen Miller

Nell always looked forward to her next big adventure.

Nell Bowen Miller, a longtime Vashon Islander, passed away peacefully on October 9, 2024, after a prolonged illness. After retiring from a challenging career in finance, with a gracious spring in her step, Nell found great passion in her life as a philanthropist, animal lover, graphic artist, community advocate, and more.

Nell was known for her multifaceted personality and spirit. She was smart, funny, loving, caring, and deeply compassionate. She most enjoyed quietly giving of herself to others, including working with those in need in many walks (or flights!) of life. Nell always looked forward to her next big adventure.

Her love of life, unfettered resilience, and inspiring drive to make a positive impact on the world were infectious, and she helped others through her example. Her heart seemed made of gold, her spirit full of grace. And she sure loved her three adorable cats, including rehabilitating her once-feral VIPP rescue.

Nell is survived by her children, including James Miller and his wife, Erin, and their children, Jackson and Kate, and Elizabeth Fortescue and her partner, Del Brahimi, and Elizabeth’s son, William, as well as by her dear friend, Tink Campbell. She was preceded in death by her sister, Nancy Kaltreider; her mother, Jean Bowen; and her father, known affectionately as “Pop” Bowen.

A celebration of Nell’s life will be held on Saturday, January 4th, 2025, from 2:00 – 5:00pm at The Willows Lodge in Woodinville, WA.

In lieu of flowers, contributions to charities Nell cared about most would be much appreciated: Vashon Island Center for the Arts, Vashon Island Pet Protectors, or Vashon Island Youth and Family Services.

Bless you, Nell. You will be dearly missed.
