Robert Wallin Jones

He possessed an inquiring mind, fascinated by changing cultural norms and politics.

Rob Jones, 75 of Ballard, passed peacefully October 19 at a health-care home in Edmonds. He had battled cancer for more than a year. He was the devoted son of Vashon’s Dorothy Hall-Bauer.

Rob, born in Seattle, was a frequent visitor to Vashon and Maury islands, during his youth on family outings and in recent years visiting his mother on Hake Road then on Burton Drive. She is a longtime resident here, author of “Islanders, Meet Your Neighbors” booklets, who now lives at Vashon Community Care.

Dorothy was Rob’s lifeline following his injury in a tragic vehicle accident when he was 17. They collaborated regularly.

Rob was remarkably independent, making his mark as a community college student, real estate investor and custodian. He possessed an inquiring mind, fascinated by changing cultural norms and politics.

Rob is sorely missed by his admiring family. He is survived by mother Dorothy, 96; aunt Kathryn Hodges, 102 of Seattle; sister Sylvia of Bellingham; brother Bill of Indianola; and sister Laurie of Minneapolis; along with many cousins.

Services are scheduled at University Temple United Methodist Church, Seattle, for 2 p.m., Saturday, November 10.
