Burton Beach Rowers Take Gold at Husky Open

The Burton Beach Rowing Club made a return to the University of Washington’s legendary rowing course through the Montlake Cut.

Last weekend, the Burton Beach Rowing Club made a return to the University of Washington’s legendary rowing course through the Montlake Cut, competing in the Junior Men’s Coxed Quad event at the 2022 Husky Open.

Taking home the gold in the race, the Burton Beach crew was composed of 8th grader Zack Merrigan and VHS seniors Davis Kelly, Dylan Carmody, and Simon Grant. Caroline Barnes was at the helm and steered a great course in some strong crosswind conditions.

“We’d had a couple of weeks of solid practice, and that paid off today,” said BBRC coach Richard Parr.

Next up for Burton Beach, this weekend, is the club’s debut at the well-known Covered Bridge Regatta outside of Eugene.
