Golf coach bestows end-of-season awards

Awards included academic, tournament and player’s choice.

The Vashon High School golf team had its awards dinner at the Vashon Golf & Swim Club on Tuesday, May 14.

Coach Paul Wahlengave out the several awards. Academic awards for students with GPAs over 3.5 went to seniors Lewis Kanagy and Jacob Chavez. The District award went to Koen Shaw for qualifying for District Tournament. Shaw also received an award for making second team all league. The Players Choice award went to Christopher Folau. The Coaches Award went to Jake Harrah. Kanagy earned the Most Improved Player award, and the Most Valuable Player award went to Shaw. Seven of the players received letters this year for participating in team play: Colin Pottinger, Shaw, Kanagy, Chavez, Matthew Jones, Harrah and Folau.

Shaw played in the District Tounament May 15 at Gold Mountain Golf Course and qualified as an alternate for the State tournament to held May 22, after press time, at the Olympia Country Club in Olympia.
