With temperatures soaring into the high 90’s and Vashon Island Junior Crew racing five boats into the finals, the USRowing NW Junior Regionals held on Vancouver Lake in Vancouver, Wash., this past weekend were hot. Three Vashon boards are heading to Nationals in New Jersey June 26 to 29.
The Vashon High School Pirate baseball team lost 8-3 to the Kalama Chinooks at the Castle Rock regional tournament on Saturday, ending their bid for a state finals appearance. The Pirates ended their season with a 10-7 record.
The Vashon High School boys soccer team played a state playoff game yesterday to qualify them for the state quarterfinals. It happened too late for the results to appear in today’s paper.
The 1A Nisqually League Track and Field championships were held on May 6 and 7. Fife High School was the venue for both the 1A and 2A league meets this year.
With more than 1,650 athletes in attendance from more than 30 clubs representing Canada and the United States, some from as far away as Tempe, Ariz., the Vashon Island Junior Crew (VIJC) saw more of their boats go to finals in the April 25-26 prestigious Brentwood Regatta — the largest high school regatta in North America — than in any previous year.
The Vashon High School Pirate baseball team unloaded three home runs in defeating the Seattle Christian Warriors, 11-3, in tri-district playoffs last Saturday.They now move on to the round of 16, playing for one of four state tournament berths.
