Soccer club to host golf fundraiser for VES Field lights

The Vashon Island Soccer Club is raising money to install lights at the VES Fields and is planning a golf fundraiser for next month.

The event, Vashon Island Golf Fore Lights, will begin at 2 p.m. Friday, June 29, at the Vashon Island Golf & Swim Club. Sponsorship opportunities for individuals and businesses are available through soccer club board member Jamie Lopez. As of last week, there was still room for golfers to sign up either as individuals or as teams of four at a cost of $200 per player. Donations to the light fund are also being accepted from those not participating in the golf event.

When the VES Fields were built, the infrastructure for the lights was installed, but the lights were not completed for lack of funds. Earlier this year, King County awarded $250,000 to the Vashon Lacrosse Club, in partnership with the soccer club and Vashon Park District, for the lights. The grant covered most of the cost, but not the entire amount necessary. The June fundraiser is part of the effort to secure the approximately $50,000 still needed to install the lights before the next soccer season.

Checks for the VES lights can be sent to the club at PO Box 2576, Vashon, WA 98070. For more information, email Lopez at jamie@theactorsgroup.com.

Last year, 450 children played soccer through the Vashon Island Soccer Club. Registration for fall teams is currently underway at vashonsoccer.org.
