Vashon Lacrosse is having a great 2022 season.
On Tuesday, April 26, the Vashon Vultures, the boys’ high school team, dominated the South Kitsap Wolves from start to finish on the Wolves’ home turf, ending with a 25-4 final score.
On Sunday, April 30, the North Kitsap Titans were ready for the Vultures at the outset of this game, scoring the first goal of this slow-developing strategic contest.
The Vulture’s Eamon Tegenfeldt-Pfohman, Ryder Jones and Davis Rice dominated scoring in the first half, while Caleb Hecht, Finn McIntyre, Ryder Jones came in strong in the second as the Vultures stifling defense crushed the opposing team’s advances. The match ended with an 11-5 final score.
The Vultures ended their incredible regular season on Wednesday, May 4, defeating the Gig Harbor Tides in front of a packed home crowd. This game was a nail-biter from start to finish, ending with a triumphant winning goal with only a single second left on the clock, scored by Davis Rice.
The team ends its regular season with a 7-1 league record (8-2 overall), first seed in the playoffs bracket, and a first-round bye. The Vultures will host their first playoff game at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, May 14, at Vashon High School’s stadium.
The Vashon Valkyries high school team finished the season strong, coming close to defeating Mercer Island, and winning games against Olympia and Shoreline.
The Valkyries had one of the best records in the league this season and one of the league’s highest scorers in Lilah Mechura. Mechura is one of three Valkyries seniors, along with Franki Brown and Lucy Wing.
Although their last game of the season was canceled due to COVID within the opponent’s team, the Valkyries held senior night during a mixed practice with the Vultures high school boys team.
On Saturday, April 30, the Falcons — Vashon’s team for players who are seven to 10 years old — took on the Jaguars from Emerald Ridge.
While Emerald Ridge had an older and deeper squad with more experience and ended up winning by a final score of 15-5, Vashon competed throughout.
Dot Castellote, Kai Dizazzo, and Oren Salinas netted goals for the Falcons, while Adeline Arthur, Ilan Salinas, and Mav Wilks were strong on ground balls. Michael Staniewicz and Emmett Golding split time blocking shots at the goal.
The Falcons are an enthusiastic squad of second, third, and fourth-graders from Vashon. For many of them, this is their first season ever of lacrosse.
Support Vashon Lacrosse and the Vashon Vultures at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, May 14, at the Vashon High School Stadium, as the Vultures compete in the first game of the 2022 state championships.
