VHS boys finish off the podium at State track meet

The Washington Interscholastic Activities Association State Track & Field Championships were held at Eastern Washington University in Cheney last weekend. The Pirates sent five boys to compete in the 100-meter dash and the 4×100-meter relay.

Senior Noah Edmonds placed ninth overall in the 100 meters with a time of 11.65, which was just .02 seconds from the top eight and a podium finish. An hour later, Edmonds was back on the track with a baton in his hand as he anchored the boys’ 4×100-relay team, which also featured junior Kalen Cunningham, lead off leg; junior Sol Dehnert, second leg; sophomore Evan Stephanick, third leg, and junior Alex Lee as the alternate relay member. The relay team placed 14th overall with a time of 46.08.

Next season the Pirates look forward to hosting home track and field meets on the new track at Vashon High School. It has been many years since a meet has taken place on the island.
