VHS wrestlers holding their own against bigger schools

VHS wrestlers offered a master class in teamwork last week: first, with a couple of come-from-behind pins at the Cascade Christian dual meet to win, and then a win from the JV team combined with strong varsity results to see the grappling pirates take third overall at the Emerald Ridge tournament.

“It was really a true team effort,” coach Anders Blomgren said in an email to The Beachcomber.

Battling seven mostly bigger schools, notable results included, on the varsity side: second place for Jake Carman, third for Luke Larson and fifths for Ethan McIntyre, Payton Bonaventura and Moses Kilpatrick.

The JV side saw Lewis Kanagy and Alyx Arteaga snag firsts, Ryan Nelson, Isaac Escovedo and Bladdie Martinez-Arteaga all bringing home seconds, and Finn McClure, Jordan Rutschow, Yury Coucoules, Richard Rivas and Jake Larson rounding out the placings with thirds.
