Ron died peacefully at home on August 5, 2009, after a long courageous struggle with cancer. He was born in Stuttgart, Germany. At age 4 he came with his parents to West Texas.
From 1956, Ron grew up in Spokane, WA, where he attended Lewis and Clark High School. He played the clarinet and the drums. He was in the school band and he was on the football team. He received an AA degree at Spokane Falls Community College.
In 1969 he moved to live and work in Seattle. In June 1981 he achieved a B.A. degree in Art at the University of Washington. He was an Alumni Member of the University and a great fan of the Huskies.
In 1982, he lived in Germany and worked for the Service Club at an Army Base near Stuttgart. While in Europe, Ron enjoyed traveling on his Harley Davidson Motorcycle visiting friends in various countries. The breeze seemed to agree with his free spirit.
In 1984, upon his return to America, he moved to Vashon to live because he liked the Puget Sound area. Ron enjoyed using his skills as a craftsman to do his work as a handyman with pride and dignity.
He had many interests, especially for the arts, music, and poetry. He also had a great love for animals, nature, plants, and many outdoor activities.
Ron found the greatest fulfillment and happiness in the activities and time spent with his children. Ron is survived by his children, Justin, age 12 and Jessica, age 10 on Vashon and a daughter Macky Lineberry in Pierce, ID, and his mother Rosemarie Haight of Arizona, as well as two uncles, an aunt and four cousins in Germany.
A memorial service will be held at the Vashon Lutheran Church, 18623 Vashon Hwy. S.W. on Sunday, August 16th at 3:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to Ron’s account at Chase Bank, Vashon Branch, toward an educational fund for his children, Justin and Jessica Cook.
Ron, we love you and miss you every day.
