Steven Shewchuck

Steven (Shewy) Shewchuck passed away on December 22, 2015 after a 3 year battle with cancer. He is survived by his wife, Darlece of Vashon Island, Washington; daughter, Micole Fuller and husband Brad of Wiesbaden, Germany; daughter, Kyla McCarthy of Vashon Island, Washington and Steve’s stepson; Brandon Cleveland and his partner Emily Joslin, of Mariposa, California.
Steve was born in 1948 at Fort Ord, Calif. He graduated from California State College, Hayward and then moved to Lake Tahoe. He loved skating on the local lakes and skiing, hiking and camping in the surrounding mountains. Steve worked for the National Park Service at Yellowstone and Mount Rainier before moving to Yosemite National Park in 1989. He was employed in Yosemite as a Maintenance Mechanic.
While in Yosemite he met his future wife Darlece who shared his love of creating art. Steve and Darlece purchased 5 acres with a home and shop on Vashon Island in 2009. Steve retired from the NPS in 2012 and joined Darlece and Kyla there. Steve became an enthusiastic bird watcher and member of the Vashon-Maury Island Garden Club and the Vashon Island Fruit Club. He loved exploring the natural areas of the island.
Steve was preceded in death by his parents, Sergey Shewchuck and Janet Brubaker Shewchuck. He is survived by sisters Karen Quinn and Marilyn Ehrenreich and brother Bill Alexander. Also by many cousins, nieces and nephews.
