John Patrick McCarthy

John Patrick McCarthy, 79, died suddenly at his home on Saturday, December 31, 2016, the son of John F. McCarthy and Kathleen Taylor.
He leaves his wife of 57 years, Elizabeth (Liz) Kohlroser McCarthy; their son, Kevin F. McCarthy of Chesterfield, South Carolina; their daughter, Lisa M. McCarthy Noonan, her husband Steven Noonan, and two grandsons, Spencer and Bryce Noonan of Sammamish, Washington. In addition, he is survived by his brother, Thomas McCarthy and his sister, Clare McCarthy Fischer, of Elkridge Maryland, and many nieces, nephews and friends.
His early years were spent in New York, graduating from Brooklyn Technical School, Queensboro College and St. John’s University as a mechanical engineer. He served his apprenticeship at the Bulova Watch Company. During his long career he held 19 patents and was always very creative in machine design.
John was a Mason, raised in 1969 at Anchor Astoria #729. He was active in Mark P. Waterman #177, the Nile Shrine, West Seattle Shrine Club, as well as the Sportsman’s Club on Vashon. John loved the water and always gravitated to boating, fishing, and living on an island. He was a resident on Vashon 28 years.He did not want a funeral service, and a memorial service will be for family only.Donations in John’s name can be made to the Shriners Hospital for Children, the Wounded Warrior Project or St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
