Boys’ basketball team receives multiple end-of-season awards

The Pirates boys’ basketball team won the Nisqually League Sportsmanship Award for the 2016-17 basketball season. Head coach Andy Sears announced that news Sunday night at the team’s banquet. This award is voted on by league coaches, and Sears noted that it is rare for the team that wins the league championship to also be recognized as the team displaying the most sportsmanship.

The team also received a scholastic award from the Washington Interscholastic Activities Association given to teams with an average GPA of 3.5 or higher.

Additionally, Sears announced that league coaches voted senior Casper Forest the Nisqually League’s Most Valuable Player. This winter, Forest broke the Vashon High School single-season record for three-point shots made with 57.

League coaches voted junior guard Noah Edmonds to the first team All-Nisqually League Junior forward Jahmiah Hoogen received All-Nisqually League honorable mention.

Vashon High School, the 2016-17 Nisqually League basketball champions, loses three seniors to graduation: Langston Dziko, Forest and Rhys Jennings. Returning as seniors will be Edmonds, Hoogen, Sam Briggs and Ethan Danielsen.
