LETTER: Support is available for babies and their mothers

Published 1:30 am Tuesday, March 27, 2018

Thank you Shannon Mahan for answering my question, “When does human life begin?” (After life begins, there is little support for mothers, babies,” March 14).

So pro-choice folks believe life begins at birth, and pro-life folks believe that life begins at conception.

You asked me publicly if I have ever seen a crack baby. No, but I worked with Teen Challenge in Italy for 14 years helping to cure and rehabilitate both male and female heroin addicts. We also worked to free women from sex-trafficking.

To answer your second question, no, I do not decide what you do with your life or your body. God has given you a free will. You can do what you want. You won’t have to give an account of your life to me. I’m not God.

I feel two emotions when I answer these questions.

As a follower of Christ, I have love and respect for you. You are a precious human being. Your life is worth the sacrifice of God on the cross to pay the penalty for your sins and mine.

I grieve for the sense of hopelessness on the part of many pro-choice people. Their outlook is hopeless with regards to unwanted children: “Nobody wants this child, so let’s abort it.”

Shannon, life is not hopeless. There are people that want to support mothers and babies.

“The Lord told Jeremiah (1:5), ‘Before I formed you in the womb, I knew you.’ Then Peter says of the Lord, ‘cast all your anxieties on him, because he cares for you.’
