LETTER: Food bank partnership a success

Published 1:30 am Wednesday, September 5, 2018

Here’s a progress report on “Dine Out Against Hunger,” the summer-long partnership between the Vashon Maury Community Food Bank and three island restaurants.

It’s a success. Many thank yous are in order.

First, thank you to the restaurants — Gravy, The Hardware Store Restaurant and May Kitchen + Bar — for agreeing to give 10 percent of their food and beverage revenue from one night each month to the food bank.

Also, thanks to the hundreds of islanders and visitors who supported the food bank by choosing to “Dine Out” on those nights. The restaurants have been packed.

The bottom line: More than $3,000 has been raised for the food bank so far.

That money will help us better serve the many islanders — seniors, children, working folks — who sometimes have trouble getting enough nutritious food. Last year the food bank provided groceries to one in every eight Vashon households.

Three more “Dine Out” nights are scheduled: Wednesday, Sept. 12, at The Hardware Store Restaurant; Wednesday, Sept. 19, at May Kitchen + Bar; and Thursday, Sept. 27, at Gravy. Please put those dates on your calendars and help the food bank help your neighbors.
