The Vashon Tennis Club has been hard at work covering the tennis courts at the Vashon Golf & Swim Club with an inflatable dome.

The project is supposed to be completed by Dec. 13, according to Vashon Tennis Club co-founder Marcus Gautesen.

It has taken longer than initially hoped to install the dome, as the manufacturer sent the wrong size pipes that make up an important part of the dome’s framework. Like at the Vashon Pool, this dome is also being installed with volunteer labor. On Monday of this week, Gautesen said that junior members of the tennis club and their parents, pickelball players and members of the Vashon Golf and Swim Club have all lent a hand. Once completed, the dome is expected to rise 50 feet in the air and will be in place for up to six months of the year.

A new membership to play on the courts is available through the Vashon Golf & Swim Club; monthly fees are $35 for individuals and $50 for families. Court fees are $20 per hour.

Despite the slower than expected start to the dome project, Gautesen sounded pleased.

“It’s moving,” he said. “It’s going to be great.”
