Scenes from a Halloween night on Vashon: costumed kids swarmed a roving R2D2, business owners dressed up to deliver candy to swarms of trick-or-treaters, and a raucous street dance broke out after sunset.

Sunday, Oct. 31, brought a joyous return to an annual tradition on Vashon — the closure of Vashon Highway, in the heart of town, for exuberant Halloween festivities that took place on a beautiful autumn evening.

The event was coordinated by the Vashon Chamber of Commerce and joyfully enlivened by hundreds of costumed participants and a host of eager business owners. The night had something for everyone — ample candy for the kids, chills and thrills for teens, and plenty of fun cosplay and dancing in the streets for islanders of all ages.
