(Vashon Events graphic | Terry Donnelly Photo) Vashon Events has released its third compilation album featuring tunes by local songwriters and musicians.

Vashon Events — an island nonprofit that has enriched the cultural life of our community in many ways, has just released a new CD “Vashon Calling III,” filled with music created by some of the leading lights of Vashon’s vibrant music scene.

It’s the third such album created by Vashon Events and includes songs from island favorites Tim Couldn’t Make It, The Crisis Project, Kings of Mongrel Folk, Steve Amsden, Chris Anderson Banned, Michael Whitmore, OneNiteStand, One More Mile, Harmolade, Nate Ovsis, The Confessions, Rooster, John Browne and Mark Wells.

The album is homegrown in other wonderful ways too, including being mastered by Martin Feveyear. Its stunning cover art — an image of a misty local beach, illuminated by the sky’s pink light — was shot by lauded island photographer Terry Donnelly.

For those of us who miss Vashon’s pre-pandemic music scene, which bustled with weekly concerts and pop-up performances, the album is a treat, reminding us of something very special about the town where we live. It’s an excellent companion, as well, to Vashon Events’ first two editions of “Vashon Calling” CDs, which contain similar musical reminders of home. Buy all three of the albums, if you don’t already have them in your collection.

Find out more at vashonevents.org, and also check out all of Vashon Events’ other services and resources, which include a free musical instrument library for all ages, directories of music teachers and much, much more. The organization is run by Pete Welch and Allison Shirk, who haven’t missed a beat as they have pivoted throughout the past two years to make sure that music and community events never stop on Vashon.
