Vashon HouseHold talk

Join Vashon HouseHold at 9:45 a.m. Sunday, May 1 at Lewis Hall, for a conversation about Vashon’s affordable housing crisis. There will be a brief presentation on VHH’s projects and history and then move to a facilitated discussion to solicit questions, ideas, and aspirations from the congregation of Vashon Island Unitarian Fellowship.

VHH currently provides housing for more than 160 island residents. This meeting is part of a year-long listening tour initiated by the board to have conversations with islanders about the rising demand for affordable housing on Vashon. Attend in person, or on Zoom. To reserve seats, visit rsvp.church/r/uWtw0Egt. To join online, visit viuf.org/sunday.

Spring Fix-It Café

The Vashon Fix-It Café returns from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, May 7, at the Vashon Eagles. Advanced registration is required to stagger fixing sessions and pair you with the right fixer.

Complete the form at www.vashonfixit.com to be paired with a fixer, or volunteer. For those who prefer in-person fixing, we’re also offering that option with mask precautions and social distancing, likely in an outdoor setting.

First Friday Market

I Love Vashon presents Vashon’s First Friday Night Market, which will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, May 6 at the Vashon Theatre Parking lot. Each month will focus on a different theme, with the month of May celebrating mothers. This event will feature a beer and wine garden, hot food, 22 local artists and vendors, and live music. The McMurray Middle School Choir and The Speakeasy Jazz Cats are slated to perform.

“The Spirit of Place” with Michael Meade

The Vashon Heritage Museum will host a talk with Michael Meade, renowned storyteller, author, and scholar of mythology, anthropology and psychology. This talk will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday, May 12 at the Vashon-Maury Island Land Trust building.
