Community Council Meeting
Vashon-Maury Island Community Council will have its next meeting at 7 p.m. Monday, July 18, via Zoom, with guest speakers Captain Heather Volpe, from the King County Sheriff’s Office, and Kate Riley, executive director of the Vashon-Maury Land Trust.
Islanders are invited to join in, be informed, and bring questions and comments for the Sheriff’s Office and the Land Trust. For more information and a link to join the meeting, go to vmicc.net/next-meeting.
Ultimate Frisbee fun
Drop in and play ultimate frisbee with islanders of all ages every Monday evening, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., at the Vashon High School stadium field. Players of all abilities are welcome. The weekly scrimmage is sponsored by the Vashon Parks District and is free of charge. For more information, email nic.warmenhoven@gmail.com.
Big Sky at Matsuda Farm
Join the Vashon-Maury Island Land Trust from 5 to 8 p.m. Saturday, July 23, at the historic Matsuda Farm for an evening of celebration and fundraising for nature.
The evening will include local food provided by Gravy, music by Vashon’s own Saint Opehelia, a hosted bar and more.

Get health insurance and more
Islanders can sign up for free health insurance through the Affordable Care Act, as well as food stamps and Orca Lift, Metro’s reduced fare program, from 1 to 3 p.m. Wednesday, July 20, inside the Vashon Library. Upcoming meetings at VIFR
A special meeting of the Board of Commissioners of Vashon Island Fire and Rescue is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Thursday, July 14, on Zoom. The purpose of this special meeting, which will begin in public and then move to a closed executive session, is to discuss the employment status of Fire Chief Charles Krimmert.
After the closed session, the board will reconvene into open session and may take action at that time. The link to attend the meeting on Zoom can be found at vifr.org.
Another meeting, set for 6:30 p.m. Monday, July 18, will address agenda items originally set for discussion at the board’s June 29 meeting. These ideas were not addressed prior to the adjournment of the meeting.
