Theater festival to roll on this weekend

Last weekend, the second annual edition of the two-weekend-long Vashon Theatre Fest launched — a presentation by Vashon Repertory Theatre that showcases the talents of almost 60 performing artists from Vashon and beyond.
This year, the festival includes a full outdoor production of Shakespeare’s comedy, “Much Ado About Nothing,” a one-man show about the life and times of famed folksinger Pete Seeger, a far-ranging collection of solo and duo performances pieces called “5-Minute Wonders,” and the presentation of a new musical, “Somewhere Between,” now in development for a run off-Broadway.
Festival-goers also have the chance to take a first look at new plays by Northwest playwrights, presented in a series of staged readings, “Plays in a Snap.”
Venues include outdoor and indoor spaces at Open Space for Arts & Community, Vashon Center for the Arts, and Snapdragon Bakery & Café’s Black Cat Cabaret.
